Calculate your company's Scope 1 and 2 emissions for free

We give you the Envify platform for free to calculate your company's Scope 1 and 2 emissions. Upload bills, fuel invoices and maintenance contractor reports as they are: the AI extracts the consumption data and calculates everything according to the GHG Protocol.

What you get
  • Scope 1 by source: gas, fuels and refrigerant gases
  • Scope 2 with the location-based and market-based methods
  • Official emission factors, with source and year
  • A figure ready for banks, clients and VSME reports

The short answer

What Scope 1 and Scope 2 are and how they are calculated

Scope 1 covers direct emissions from sources your company owns or controls: boilers, furnaces, generators, company vehicles and refrigerant gas leaks. It is calculated by multiplying fuel consumption by its emission factor and the kg of refrigerant topped up by its GWP.

Scope 2 covers indirect emissions from the electricity, heat and steam you buy. It is calculated by multiplying the kWh consumed by an emission factor, with two methods that must both be reported: location-based, with the grid average factor, and market-based, with the factors from your contracts and guarantees of origin.

Together they are the basis of the GHG emissions inventory and the first figure banks and clients ask for. In a report following the VSME standard, they appear in disclosure B3.

The boundary

What goes into the calculation

Stationary combustion

Natural gas, heating oil and LPG for boilers, furnaces and generators, site by site.

Company fleet

Diesel and petrol for owned or leased vehicles that you manage.

Refrigerant gases

Top-ups of air conditioners, cold rooms and heat pumps, with the GWP of each gas.

Electricity

The kWh of every POD, with the location-based and market-based methods and guarantees of origin.

What you need

The documents you need

  1. Gas bills

Twelve months of bills for each site, with consumption in Smc.

  2. Electricity bills

Twelve months of bills for each POD, with the kWh consumed.

  3. Fuel invoices

Invoices for diesel, petrol and LPG or fuel card statements, in litres.

  4. Vehicle list

Fuel type and form of ownership of each company vehicle.

  5. Maintenance contractor reports

Work on air conditioning and refrigeration systems, with the kg of gas topped up.

  6. Contracts and guarantees of origin

If you buy renewable energy, the contract or the GOs cancelled in your name.

Emissions by source and by site, with the factors used, and where it makes sense to start reducing them.

Frequently asked questions

Before you request the calculation

Is the calculation really free?

Yes. Access to the Envify platform to calculate Scope 1 and Scope 2 is free and with no commitment. It is up to you whether to use the rest of the platform too, for example for Scope 3 or the sustainability report.

Which documents do I need?

The gas and electricity bills for each site, fuel invoices or fuel card statements, the company vehicle list and the maintenance contractor reports on refrigerant gases. PDFs, scans and Excel files are all fine, as they are.

Which year can I calculate?

Usually you start from the last full year. You need twelve months of data for each site, so the result is comparable with the following years.

Which methodology does the platform use?

Envify follows the GHG Protocol, the most widely used standard in the world for accounting for greenhouse gas emissions. For electricity it reports both the location-based and the market-based method, and for every emission factor it states the source and year.

Why is Scope 3 not included?

Scope 3 concerns the value chain, from purchases to transport, and requires data from suppliers and clients. Scope 1 and 2 depend only on your own consumption: they are the starting point of the inventory and the figure banks and clients ask for first.

Can I use the result in the sustainability report?

Yes. Scope 1 and Scope 2 are required by disclosure B3 of the VSME standard and by the ESG questionnaires of banks and clients. The calculation is documented: every number can be traced back to the bill or invoice it comes from.
