Circular economy: indicators and reporting for companies
Waste by destination, recovery, recycled content: the circularity indicators and how to build them from waste forms.

The circular economy enters reporting with precise indicators: how much waste you produce, where it ends up, how much material you recover or reuse. For Italian companies the documentary base already exists: FIR and waste registers contain most of the required data. The work is turning them into indicators.
The indicators that count
The core for an SME: total waste by type (hazardous and non-hazardous, by EWC code), destination (recovery versus disposal, with the percentage sent to recovery), intensity (waste per unit of product or of turnover) and, where relevant, recycled content of inputs. The VSME requires the first ones in a structured way in the Base module.
From FIR to indicators
Each FIR contains the EWC code, quantity, carrier and destination: it is the elementary unit of waste reporting. The problem is volume: dozens or hundreds of forms a year, to be reconciled with the registers. On Envify the FIR are uploaded as they are: the AI extracts the fields, flags duplicates and aggregates the indicators by site and by period.
Why it is worthwhile beyond the report
Circularity indicators bring out hidden costs: disposals classifiable as recovery, scrap reducible upstream, reusable materials. Several companies discover in the first report that the waste item hides the fastest saving margin after energy.
